Getting Technical with Technical Scripts
Last week, we had a little fun with practice trying to tackle a few tongue twisters, but this week it is all business.
Voice over work spans across so many different types of projects that we are bound to read a script with very technical writing. Technology and medicine are two examples showcased in the sample technical scripts we found on Voices.com.
The fact is there are many applications and industries that deal with very technical words. When we see and read these works for the first time, it can be a challenge.
These examples were helpful because it potentially exposes us to new vocabulary, shows us one method scriptwriters can use to help with pronunciation and allows us to develop more professional tones for future jobs.
Vocal Practice to be Boring?
White the first script in this episode may not seem like the most exciting project, it can still be a beneficial exercise because we may have to do a few jobs that require a serious, dry tone. That doesn’t me we can’t work to create a persona for this type of work that is engaging to the viewer or listener.
Just as reading the words correctly is important, reading the script in a way that gaps the audience’s attention is important.
Not every job we do is going to require expending every ounce of energy for the perfect delivery. There are so many cliche phrases we could use here to further explain, but sometimes, less is more.
I still used one, and it was on purpose.
