Re-evaluating Strategy and Goals

Re-evaluating Strategy and Goals
September is almost over and it felt like the time to re-evaluate our strategy and goals for the next three months. Up to this point, everything had a numbers-based focus. While this approach may be good for benchmarking, it is not a healthy way to build a foundation.
Next week, we will discuss more regarding performance and how it related to goals in September. With only two days left this month, the timing felt right to take a hard look at how we view goals.
Blog goals met, but at a cost to others
Meeting your goas always a good feeling, and this month we met our blog stat goal. As of the time of this recording, we had 555 views for the month, which is 55 more views than our goal of 500 views for Septemeber.
On the surfaces, it feels good to know we could exceed that goal, but at what cost? As of now, we only met two of the goals we set at the beginning of the month.
Granted, the outcome could be much worse, but was the effort we put in really worth the result?
My assessment is no. Yes, we launched some new content. yes, I found better ways to work. Those victories seem much more rewarding than the numbers. The numbers only show that 555 people clicked on a link. That’s it.Â
What did we actually gain from those clicks? Did it help build a fan base? Did it help me get a voice-over job this month?
A new mindset for the last part of 2019
It is hard to change gears in the middle of building something. Fortunately, we haven’t completed the framework and have to start all over. That is why this is the perfect time to change how we think about and view this venture.
This next quarter of 2019 will focus more on strategy than numbers. I like numbers just as much as the next person, but focusing on numbers hasn’t accomplished anything.
We can’t forget the number. They will be a vital piece of information as we put into practice our new strategies, but the strategies will not be about growing numbers.
The strategies moving forward will be about growing, both literally and figuratively.
Yes, we want the numbers to get bigger, but we also need to get better. If we get bigger but don’t get better, then what have we actually accomplished?
We will talk more next week about the approach moving forward, but for now, know change is coming.
It really is for the best.
