No matter what your side hustle is, tools can be expensive! Think about any job and the tools professionals use to accomplish their daily tasks. There is so much money invested in tools and equipment across all industries. Digital media is no different, and if you are on a budget, that can be a major hurdle to jump for your side hustle. For those of you looking to do voice-overs or a podcast, this is how you record audio on a budget.

The solution: Audacity.

Record Audio on a Budget Using Audacity

Record audio on a budget with Audacity

Audacity is a free audio recording and processing program that will fit our needs for audio if you are just starting out and have no budget, or very little budget to work with. It has all the general features you would need and is easy enough to setup, you will be recording in no time!

This free, simple tool will allow you to record audio in multiple tracks, apply effects, and edit waveforms to give you a great finished product. The interface is easy to navigate and all the right tools to help you bring your vision to life.

Is Audacity a permanent solution?

For some, Audacity may be the only solution they need. If you have ever used other applications like Pro Tools or Adobe Audition, you may find that it does not deliver all the features you have grown to love.

The multitrack functionality does not include the ability to record multiple inputs, or add your plugins to an effects rack. The effects themselves do not allow for real-time tweaking, and there is no master channel, which is handy for projects that are more complicated.

Will it work for me if I am just getting started or need a cheap solution?

Absolutely! Audacity has just enough under the hood to produce decent-quality audio. I urge you to visit audacityteam.org to learn more about this wonderful tool.
