Audiobook Auditions and New Content Ideas – Vlog Sunday 11

September is almost over

September is almost over and there is still much more work to be done to meet our social media goals. While we tripled our following on Twitter, Every other social media platform was stagnant over the last week. We did manage to gain one subscriber on YouTube, but we are still far from meeting the 100 subscriber goal.

Blog views were up last week due to Facebook blogger groups, but organic traffic is very, very small. The launch of Workout Wednesday did help but in a very small way.

Audiobook Auditions and New Content Ideas - Vlog Sunday 11

Auditioning for audiobook jobs on ACX

Last week, we talked briefly about signing up on ACX to record audiobooks, and this week I auditioned to read two books.  While it may not seem like much yet, this is a huge step toward our goal of one paying voice-over job in September.

There was one unforeseen issue I witnessed – The quality of writing in the audition material. One audition sheet was so poorly proofread, it made it difficult to read and took way more time than it needed to record the sample.

If this is something you are pursuing, be aware than not every author is the next Steinbeck and not every author’s first language is the same as your first language.

I’ll keep you updated as I get responses, but until then, we’ll keep grinding.

Fun Content Versus Beneficial Content

The most common theme I see in blogs is that they all aim to answer a question or multiple questions. These are questions that are generated by potential readers and viewers in the hopes that you can help them improve some aspect of their life by learning a new skill or fact.

I thought about this concept this week as I was planning and brainstorming. “Is the sock puppet the best thing to do now, or can I create something else more beneficial and spend more time planning the fun projects?”

I believe the correct answer is to create something a little more helpful to my audience.

While the sock puppet will be fun to work with, I want to provide content that is helpful, but I also do not want to provide content that feels rushed because I want to meet an arbitrary deadline.

I am currently planning a segment with the working title “Lab Work”. It will be a mix of tutorials and discussions surrounding some of the more technical tasks that I perform daily, weekly, monthly, etc.

I’m here to help you, not indulge my love for puppets. So, I will do what I can to help you first, and spend more time planning something fun. This way the fun content is fun and not a trainwreck.
